I’ve heard such negative things about fad diets, but I know people who have seen a change. What lif

Getting on a good health and diet regiment is very much a personal and individual journey. Not everyone will do it the same or have the same outcomes on a single plan. Therefore, in preparation of your new lifestyle there are several things you must consider.

First, you should consider your resources by asking a few questions like, "Where will I buy my healthy food and how much will it cost?" or "Will medical problems or cultural background prevent me from following a particular diet plan?"

Second, begin keep a food diary. Track everything you eat or drink that has calories in it and add them up throughout the day. This will help you find out what foods you should really cut out of your diet or what time of the day you consume the most calories. Knowing this kind of information will empower you to make better food choices and avoid temptations. Knowing what you calorie goal is at the end of the day will help you manage your calorie intake over the hours you are awake.

Third, cut out all liquid calories from the diet. This means no soda, no alcohol, no energy drinks, etc. Liquid calories do not satisfy our hunger and only provide the calories we don’t need. Occasion soda here or there is no big deal, but if you drink two or three sodas a day, then stopping this alone will help you lose half a pound a week!

Finally, begin to exercise every single day. Make it a normal part of the routine. At first, it may not be easy to do much, but remember that everything counts. Every extra movement, every extra step, it all adds up to burning more calories. Eventually, you should work up to exercising one hour a day, at least 4 hours per day to lose weight; or 45 minutes a day, 3-4 times a week to maintain weight.

Weight loss and maintenance of weight loss is a journey, not a destination. Once you begin, you should never have an end in sight. Changing your diet and adding exercise to our lives should be a lifestyle change for good and not a three month crash and your good to go. Losing weight is a slow process, and to do it right means losing about two pounds a week max. The slow and steady wins all the time.
